San Marcos, Texas – The Texas State softball team scored a total of 13 runs today as it split the doubleheader with Louisiana Tech. The Lady Techsters grabbed a 7-6 victory in game one after an eight-inning duel, but the Bobcats bounced back in game two to record the 7-3 win.
Game 1
Louisiana Tech took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third when Erin Kipp hit a two-out homer over the left center wall to give the Lady Techsters the early lead.
Texas State responded in the bottom of the fifth inning when it scored six runs on three hits to take a 6-1 lead. Macie Hair and Brooke Baker were both walked to lead off the inning, before they each advanced one base on a passed ball. Jordan Masek singled to the third baseman in the next at bat to send pinch runner Brooke Keel home to tie the game. An RBI single by Haley Lemons gave Texas State its second run of the game, while Masek later scored the Cats third run of the game on an error by the shortstop. Lemons reached home on a groundout to first base, but it was a single to right field by Courtney Harris that drove in the final two runs for the Bobcats.
LA Tech was able to get a rally of its own going in the top of the sixth, and it was a five-run performance on four hits that tied the game at 6-All.
The game went into extra innings, as neither team was able to score another run by the end of the seventh inning.
The Lady Techsters managed to score one run on three hits in the eighth inning to take the one-run lead. Unfortunately, the Bobcats were not able to score in the bottom of the inning, as LA Tech grabbed the extra-inning win.
Delia Saucedo (1-2) was handed the loss after 2.0 innings in the circle. Four different Bobcats tallied a hit in the game.
Game 2
Amanda Krueger tallied the Lady Techsters second home run of the day as she sailed one over the right field wall to begin game two.
Anna Hernandez led off the second inning with a double to left field to spark the offense. A sacrifice bunt by Delia Saucedo moved Hernandez to second base, and then she advanced home on a double to left field by Brooke Baker. Jordan Masek joined in on the hitting spree as her single sent Baker home for the one-run lead. Texas State wasn't quite done as Courtney Harris singled to center field to score both Lemons and Baker on the play. The pair of runs gave the Cats a 4-1 lead over the Lady Techsters after two innings.
The Bobcats added two more runs in the fourth inning, and one run in the sixth inning to come away with the six-run victory.
LA Tech attempted a comeback in the top of the seventh, and even managed to score two runs, but the Bobcats were able to get out of the jam and earn the win.
Ashley Wright (4-11) earned her first conference win of the season after pitching 6.1 innings. Haley Lemons finished 2-for-3 from the plate, while Kelli Baker scored a pair of runs.
Texas State and Louisiana Tech will close out the three-game series tomorrow at 1 p.m.
