Women’s Tennis Drops 4-0 Decision Against Louisiana Tech At WAC Championships

The Texas State women tennis team's 2013 season ended on Thursday afternoon when the Bobcats dropped a 4-0 decision against Louisiana Tech in the quarterfinals of the WAC Tennis Championships at the Gates Tennis Center.
 
The Bobcats began the day dropping the team doubles point as Louisiana Tech jumped out to early 3-0 leads in the No. 1 and No. 2 matches and held on to win both matches. In the No. 1 match, Jessica Kahts and Monica Pieratt suffered an 8-3 loss against Vivian ten Dolle and Manoela Chiacchio in the No. 1 doubles match. In the No. 2 match, Melissa Hadad and Mariana Perez suffered an 8-4 loss against Joanna Nalborska and Alexandra Starkova.
 
In the six singles matches, each team won three of the first sets.


Hadad dropped a 6-1, 6-3 decision in her No. 2 match against Starkova to give the Lady Techsters a 2-0 lead. Then, Bérénice Van den Bergh suffered a 6-2, 6-0 setback against Chiacchio in the No. 6 match. The match ended when Rachel Baldree fell 6-3, 6-2 in her No. 4 match against Melanie Urvoy. 
 
Texas State had won the first set in the other three matches. Pieratt won the first set in her No. 3 match against ten Dolle by the score of 6-0, and they were tied at 5-5 in the second when their match was called.
 
Kahts came back from a 4-2 deficit to win the first set of her No. 1 match against Nalborska by the score of 7-5. That match ended with Kahts trailing 2-1 in the second set.
 
In the No. 5 match, Mariana Perez opened up winning the first set, 6-4, against Taly Merker, and was ahead 3-1 in the second set when the No. 5 match was halted.
              
With the loss, Texas State ends its season with a 9-10 record, while Louisiana Tech improved to 15-4 this spring.
