Box Score

San Marcos, Texas – Texas State dropped its final game to New Mexico State, 3-2. The game went into extra innings, but it was the Aggies who took a one-run lead in the eighth inning to seal the win at Bobcat Softball Stadium.

New Mexico State (32-15, 13-2 WAC) struck first with a solo home run by Malena Padilla in the top of the second to give the Aggies a 1-0 lead.

Texas State (12-32, 7-8 WAC) responded in the bottom of the third inning when Macie Hair scored on a fielder's choice to tie the game at 1-All.

A one-out triple to center field by Amber Olive put the Aggies in scoring position early in the fifth inning. Two batters later Staci Rodriguez hit an RBI single to left field to push Olive home for the 2-1 edge.

Two innings later, Kelli Baker had a lead-off single in the fifth to get things going for Texas State. After a stolen base, she advanced to third base on a sacrifice bunt by Haley Lemons. Baker went on to tie the game at 2-All on a squeeze play.

Both the Bobcats and Aggies came up short in the sixth and seventh to force extra innings at Bobcat Softball Stadium for the second time this weekend.

After the leadoff runner for the Aggies was caught stealing second base, New Mexico State tallied four straight singles in the top of the eighth to take a 3-2 lead with one out. The Bobcats were able to get out of the top of the inning without any further runs being scored after a line out and a groundout ended the scoring threat.

The Bobcats registered a pair of hits in the bottom of the eighth, but it was not enough to grab the win today. New Mexico State garnered the one-run victory, and its second extra-inning win over Texas State.

Coralee Ramirez went 2-for-4 from the plate, while six other Bobcats tallied one hit apiece. New Mexico State was led by Padilla who finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored. The Aggies outhit the Bobcats 12 to 8.

Rayn House (4-15) suffered the loss in the circle after allowing one earned run in 3.0 innings pitched. Makayla McAdams (4-2) picked up the win for the Aggies, after pitching the final three innings of the game.

Texas State will head to Beaumont on Tuesday for a mid-week contest against Lamar. The Bobcats will close out home play next weekend when it hosts San Jose State in its final home series.
