No. 13 Texas A&M Downs Texas State, 14-0

San Marcos, Texas – Texas State softball fell behind early to No. 13 Texas A&M, and was unable to make a comeback as it dropped a 14-0 decision in five innings. Texas A&M notched 12 hits to the Bobcats two to earn the victory at Bobcat Softball Stadium.  

It was a frustrating first inning for Texas State (11-31). Texas A&M scored a trio of runs on illegal pitches by Ashley Wright, while another two runs came on a triple to right center by Cali Lanphear.

After shutting down the Aggies (40-9) in the second inning, the Bobcats were unable to stop them in the third as Lanphear hit a three-run homer to extend Texas A&M's lead to 8-0.

The Aggies went on to score six more runs, including a pair of homers in the fourth inning to seize the victory. Lanphear led the Aggies at the plate with a 3-for-3 performance, including three runs scored and five RBIs.    

Texas State's first hit of the game came from Anna Hernandez in the second inning when she batted the ball to left field. Timishia North was able to grab the Bobcats' second hit of the game when she came in to pinch hit in the fifth inning. North recorded a triple to left center – Texas State's second of the season.

Wright (6-12) pitched 2.0 innings in the loss, before Delia Saucedo came in to finish the game.

Texas State will continue its week against Aggie opponents when New Mexico State comes to town. The Bobcats and the Aggies will play a doubleheader on Friday beginning at 4 p.m. Saturday's single game contest will be at 1 p.m. Texas State is tied for third in the league standings, while New Mexico State is ranked first.
