Softball Sweeps Doubleheader at UT Arlington

Arlington, Texas – Texas State (11-29, 6-5 WAC) recorded a sweep at UT Arlington (17-21, 2-9 WAC) today. The Bobcats blanked the Lady Mavericks in both contests to earn its second and third straight conference victories. Texas State won game one 5-0, and then returned to the field to capture a 2-0 victory in game two at Allan Saxe Field.

Game 1

Texas State didn't wait too long to score its first run of the doubleheader. With runners on first and second Brooke Baker singled to left center to push Coralee Ramirez home for the first run of the game in the second inning.

Texas State stranded a pair of runners in the third inning, but it made up for it in the fourth inning when Kelli Baker hit a two-run single to right center to give the Bobcats a 3-0 advantage.

The Bobcats continued their dominance in the sixth inning when K. Baker and Haley Lemons both recorded RBI singles to extend Texas State's lead to 5-0.

The Lady Mavericks weren't able to garner a run in the game as the Bobcats earned their second straight league victory.

Texas State registered a season-high five stolen bases against the Lady Mavericks. K. Baker finished 2-for-4 with three RBI to lead the Cats at the plate, while Rayn House (4-13) garnered the win in the circle after a complete-game performance. House tied her season-high of seven strikeouts in the victory.

Game 2

Game two began a little like game one, as far as scoring goes.

Courtney Harris stepped to the plate in the second inning with two outs on the scoreboard and lined the ball to right center for a double. Harris scored on the next at-bat when the UTA pitcher attempted to make the putout at first base, but threw it too high.

Jordan Masek added to the Bobcats run total when she hit a solo home run over the left center wall to put Texas State up 2-0 in the top of the third.

Neither team would be able to score a run for the rest of the game. UTA stranded 10 runners on base, including having the bases loaded in the fourth inning. Texas State stranded seven runners, as it had the bases loaded in the fifth inning.

Texas State out-hit UT Arlington 10 to 5. Masek finished 3-for-4 from the plate with one home run. The homer gives Masek a team-high four bombers on the year.

Ashley Wright (6-11) pitched 5.1 innings to grab her third conference victory.  Rayn House picked up the save for her second of the season.

Texas State and UT Arlington will close out the three-game series tomorrow. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
