Seattle, Wash. – The Texas State softball team split its first conference away doubleheader of the season at Seattle U. The Bobcats defeated the Redhawks 2-1 in the first game, but they fell 2-0 in game two.
Game 1
Texas State's first good opportunity to score came in the third inning. Brooke Keel entered the game at first base to pinch run, and was waved home on a double by Kellie Baker to right field, but the Redhawks through her out at the plate to end the inning
Seattle U had the bases loaded in the fourth inning thanks to a hit and a pair of walks for the Redhawks. Texas State was able to keep Seattle U from scoring any runs when Jordan Masek made the play at second on a force out to end the inning.
The Bobcats came back in the top of the fifth and managed a pair of hits to put runners on first and second, but Texas State was unable to score as a groundout by Macie Hair ended the inning.
K. Baker led off the sixth inning with a single to the pitcher to complete a 3-for-3 performance. The hit would prove to be valuable as two batters later Haley Lemons knocked one down the right line to score Baker and give Texas State a 1-0 lead in the sixth.
The Redhawks tied the game at 1-All in the bottom of the sixth after Bubba Morrow scored on a passed ball.
Katie Doerre rescued the Bobcats in the top of the seventh with a solo homer to right field with two outs. The homer was the third of the season for Doerre while it helped lift the Bobcats to a 2-1 win.
Delia Saucedo (1-1) earned her first win of the season after coming in and pitching the final two innings.
Game 2
Seattle U wasted very little time to score in game two, as the Redhawks' Isabella Geronimo had a leadoff single to start the bottom of the first. After advancing to second base on a sacrifice bunt, Geronimo scored on a double to centerfield by Brittney Lott to give the Redhawks a one-run edge.
In the top of the second inning the Bobcats tallied a pair of hits that led to the bases being loaded with one out. Unfortunately, K. Baker struck out to end the inning to leave the Bobcats scoreless.
The Redhawks' Bubba Morrow hit a solo homer run to left field in the bottom of the sixth to extend Seattle U's lead to 2-0.
Ashley Wright (3-11) suffered the loss after 4.1 innings in the circle with three strikeouts. Three different Bobcats registered a hit.
Texas State and Seattle U will complete the three-game series tomorrow with a single game at Logan Field. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. CT.
