College Station, Texas – No. 9 Texas A&M was victorious over the Bobcats tonight as they beat visiting Texas State 9-1 in five innings. The Aggies used a pair of long balls to snap a three-game losing streak.
A two-out two-run homer by Texas A&M's Amber Garza in the second inning gave the Aggies a 2-0 lead to start the game.
After reaching base on a leadoff walk, Coralee Ramirez was able to later round the bases and score on an RBI single by Haley Lemons as she laced one down the right side in the third inning.
The Aggies extended their lead in the bottom of the third inning when they scored six runs, including a grand slam by Garza for her second homer of the game.
Texas A&M tallied one run in the fourth inning to bring the run rule into effect as they captured the win at home.
Rayn House (2-12) was handed the loss after 2.2 innings of work. She fanned three batters during her time in the circle. Four different Bobcats collected a hit, including senior Anna Hernandez who has improved her hit streak to four games.
Lauren Ainsley (9-2) earned the win for Texas A&M in the circle after a complete-game effort. Garza was the top hitter for the Aggies after finishing 2-for-2 with six RBI.
Texas State will return to conference play this weekend with a trip to Seattle for a three-game series beginning with a doubleheader on Friday, and a single game on Saturday.
