, Texas – Texas State will take to the road to open Western Athletic Conference action against New Mexico State this weekend in Las Cruces, N.M. The Bobcats will face a powerful offensive team to open up conference play as well as three senior pitchers throughout the weekend.
 
Texas State is looking to break its winless streak on the road (0-7 this season) and will have to do it against an Aggie squad that boasts an impressive 10-2 record at home.
 
The teams aren't too familiar with each other as the Bobcats took the only meeting between the two back on Feb. 18, 2000, in Head Coach Ty Harrington's first season at Texas State.
 
New Mexico State leads the WAC in on-base percentage (.415, 13th nationally), home runs (21, third nationally), home runs per game (0.95, ninth nationally), runs (172, fifth nationally), stolen bases (30), stolen bases per game (1.36) and bases on balls (143, second nationally). The Aggies are also second in the WAC in scoring, averaging 8.1 runs per game, and third in hits, doubles and slugging percentage.
 
On Texas State's side are two of the top pitchers in the league. Kyle Finnegan is third in the WAC in strikeouts per innings and second in strikeouts overall while Taylor Black is seventh and fifth respectively. New Mexico State's Saturday Starter Ryan Beck leads the WAC in strikeouts per nine innings and is fourth in total strikeouts. Adam Mott, the Friday starter, is sixth in strikeouts while Sunday's starter, Michael Ormseth, is fifth in strikeouts per nine innings.
