Softball Splits on Day Two of CenturyLink Classic

San Marcos, Texas – Texas State softball snapped its eight-game losing streak with a 7-1 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi this afternoon on day two of the CenturyLink Classic. The Bobcats dropped their second game of the day to North Texas, in which it fell 9-3.

Game 1

Macie Hair went 2-for-2, and Courtney Harris finished 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI to lead the Bobcat offense to a 7-1 win over ex-Southland foe Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

The Bobcats got on board first with a pair of runs in the third inning, and then added another in the fourth when Coralee Ramirez doubled to send Jordan Masek home.

With the bases loaded in the fourth inning, Ramirez reached first base on an error by the third baseman resulting in a run scored by pinch runner Timishia North. Two batters later, Haley Lemons singled to right field and Masek scored. Courtney Harris added to the Bobcats hits with a two-run double to centerfield and it gave Texas State a 7-1 lead as it held on for the victory.

The Islanders lone run of the game came in the fifth inning when Lindsey Lyles homered to left center.

Ashley Wright (3-4) earned the victory in the circle as she pitched a complete game.

Game 2

The Mean Green jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, as it turned into a 9-3 defeat over the Bobcats in the second game of the day.

A two-run double by Danielle Hoff led to four runs for North Texas in the first inning.

A sacrifice fly by Jordan Masek in the second inning drove in Courtney Harris for the Bobcats first run of the game.

Texas State tacked on a pair of runs in the third inning when Anna Hernandez was walked with the bases loaded, and then three batters later Haley Lemons scored on a passed ball.

The Bobcats had cut North Texas' lead to one run, but the Mean Green added four more in the fourth inning and one more in the fifth to come away with the win. North Texas out-hit Texas State, 11-4.

Rayn House (0-7) suffered the loss in the circle after 3.1 innings pitched. Brooke Baker finished 2-for-4 with one run scored to lead the Bobcat offense.

Texas State will close out play in the CenturyLink Classic tomorrow March 3. The Bobcats will play Purdue in the first game of the day at 10 a.m.
