Sacramento, Calif. – The Texas State softball team fell to St. Mary's in its final game of the Capital Classic. The Gaels captured an 8-2 victory over the Bobcats at Shea Stadium. Texas State finished the tournament 1-3.
The Gaels got off to a strong start as they recorded five runs in the first inning. St. Mary's notched its first run after a Bobcat error at second base, and then Low hit a grand slam to right center to extend the Gaels lead to 5-0.
In the second inning, Anna Hernandez hit a sacrifice fly to the St. Mary's right fielder to drive in Coralee Ramirez for the Bobcats first run of the day.
St. Mary's added three more runs in the third inning with an RBI single to left field and an RBI double to centerfield.
Brooke Keel scored Texas State's second run of the game when Courtney Harris singled to left field in the top of the third inning.
The Bobcats stranded a pair of runners on base in the seventh inning to suffer their third loss of the tournament.
Ashley Wright (3-9) was handed the loss after 1.1 innings in the circle.
Haley Lemons led Texas State at the plate with a 5-for-12 performance, a pair of RBI and two runs scored over the course of the tournament.
Texas State returns to action on March 22-23 at Bobcat Softball Stadium for its I-35 Rivalry versus UTSA. Friday's doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m., while Saturday's single game is slated for 1 p.m.
