San Marcos, Texas - The Texas State women's tennis team opened its 2013 spring season in dominant fashion on Saturday afternoon when the Bobcats won a 7-0 decision at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
Texas State began the day winning the doubles point with victories in all three matches. Junior
Jessica Kahts and senior
Gabriela Rojas won the No. 1 match, 8-2, over Dana Nazarova and Reegan Greenwood.
Sophomores
Rachel Baldree and
Monica Pieratt defeated Manon Lavrijssen and Lucie Chrastecka, 8-1, in the No. 3 match.
In the No. 2 doubles match, seniors
Melissa Hadad and
Mariana Perez defeated Wanda Beguelin and Anastasia Burobina by the score of 8-4.
Texas State also won all six of the singles matches with Kahts shutting out Nazarova 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 1 match.
Bérénice Van den Bergh easily won the first set, 6-1, against Greenwood in the No. 6 match. After Greenwood jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second set, Van den Bergh took control by winning the next four games. She went on to win the set and the match by a score of 6-3.
In the No. 5 match, Perez trailed 3-0 before coming back to win six of the next seven games to capture the first set by a score of 6-4 against Chrastecka. In the second set, Perez trailed 3-4, before coming back to win the final three points to capture the second set and the match, 6-4.
Hadad clinched the victory when she won a 6-3, 6-2 decision over Lavrijssen. Each player held serve during the first seven games of the first set before Hadad won the final two points to capture the opening set. Then, she won the final three games of the second set to clinch her victory.
A transfer from Arkansas-Fort Smith, Pieratt won her first dual match as a Bobcat with a hard-fought 6-3, 6-4 decision over Burobina in the No. 4 match.
In another hard-fought match, Baldree split the first two sets of the No. 3 match against Beguelin. Baldree won the first set by a score of 6-2 before dropping the second set 3-6. Then, she clinched the victory by winning the third-set tiebreaker 10-5.
The Bobcats will look to win their second dual match of the season when the play host to St. Edward's on Sunday afternoon at the Bobcat Tennis Complex. The match is begins with doubles matches starting at noon.
