SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State soccer team finished the regular season in style on Sunday afternoon as the Bobcats picked up the 3-0 shutout over the Arkansas State Red Wolves on Senior Day. The Bobcats finished the regular season with a pair of shutout victories and improved to 7-8-2 overall and 4-3-1 in the Sun Belt Conference.
In the 38
th minute of the contest, freshman
Clarissa Leon scored the first of the three Bobcat goals. Leon scored her third goal of the season after receiving a pass up the middle from
Tori Hale and taking it one-on-one versus the Arkansas State goalkeeper.
After the intermission, the Arkansas State bench played a man down after goalkeeper Amanda Lee was issued a red card in the 62
nd minute of the contest. The Bobcats took advantage of the man-up opportunity, scoring their other two goals after the ejection.
Lynsey Curry tacked on the second Bobcat goal of the game in the 70
th minute, taking a pass from Hale outside the 18-yard box and sailing the shot over the head of new Red Wolves goalkeeper, Beth Kremer. The goal was Curry's team-leading seventh goal of the season.
Senior
Gabbi Cottee gave the Bobcats an assurance goal in the 89
th minute after connecting with a Leon pass.
The Bobcats finished the day with 15 total shots compared to just 10 by the Red Wolves. Curry led the Bobcats with four shots and Leon led the team with three points.
After playing host to a season-high 376 fans on Sunday, the Bobcats finished the regular season first in the Sun Belt Conference in game attendance.
The top eight schools in the Sun Belt Conference now take a week off of action as they prepare for the conference tournament on Nov. 6-10. The tournament is hosted by Texas State and will be played at the Bobcat Soccer Complex. With the victory today, the Bobcats move into fourth in the conference due to owning the tie-break over Troy. The Bobcats will play in the 7 p.m. game on Wednesday, Nov. 6.
