San Marcos, Texas –
The Texas State soccer team won its fourth home opener in the last five seasons, Tuesday night against Prairie View A&M. Gabbi Cottee and Sydney Curry each had a goal and an assist in the 3-0 victory.

Texas State broke the 0-0 tie with 21 minutes left in regulation. Serena Hines took a ball at the top of the 18-yard box and crossed it over to Taylor Kelley who slid it past the goalkeeper for the Bobcats' first goal of the game

The Bobcats got insurance with nine minutes left. Gabbi Cottee drove to the goal and passed it back to Sydney Curry who rocketed a shot that deflected off a Panther and into the net.

Curry and Cottee connected again, this time with just over a minute left in the game. Curry had a corner kick from the left corner and Cottee rushed the goal and headed it in for the team's final tally of the night.

The Bobcats had a good opportunity four minutes into the match when Kelley sent a pass into the box, and Hines one-timed it just over the keeper's head, but it went over the goal.

In the 24th minute, Serena Hines, split two defenders and had a good look at the goal just outside the 18-yard box, but the shot went just over the right corner.

With 7:30 remaining in first half, Bridget Richie sent a perfect pass to Felicia Leask who was all alone with the goalie. Unfortunately for the Bobcats, the shot went right to the goalkeeper's arms, keeping the score at 0-0.

Just before halftime, Ali Myers used some fancy footwork to get open, and sent a laser shot at the goal. Unfortunately, Bianca Garza got herself in position to stop the shot.

At halftime it was 0-0, with Texas State owning a 9-2 shot advantage.

In the beginning of the second half, Richie gathered possession of the ball at the top of the box. She turned and fired, but again Garza was up to the task.

Tori Hale split three defenders with 21 minutes to go in regulation and ripped a shot headed right for the goal, but the shot was deflected.

Caitlynn Rinehart picked up her first career shutout in just her second shot. She led a defense that had just two shots come its way all night long.

The Bobcats return to action in Houston on Friday night, when they face Houston Baptist at 7:00 p.m.
