Season Statistics
San Antonio, Texas – The Texas State women's tennis team snapped a two-match losing streak with a 6-1 victory over UTSA in the Maroon-Orange I-35 rivalry match on Sunday afternoon at the UTSA Tennis Center.
Texas State came into the match having suffered two consecutive 4-3 losses against Houston and at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. But the Bobcats opened Sunday's match in strong fashion as they won two of the three doubles matches to capture the team point.
In the No. 3 match,
Mariana Perez and
Rachel Baldree improved their doubles record to 13-1 this spring when they recorded an 8-6 victory over Kavya Menon and Natalie Hand.
Texas State won the team point when
Gabriela Rojas and Bérénice Van den Bergh defeated Micaela Silva and Vivian Carrillo by a score of 9-7 in the No. 2 match.
In the No. 1 match,
Jessica Kahts and
Melissa Hadad put up a good fight against Stefanie Peana and Isabella Jonsson before falling 9-7.
Texas State also won five of the six singles match to capture its 11
th victory of the season. In the No. 1 match, Kahts won her 12th singles match this spring and improve her overall record to 12-3 with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Peana.
Hadad also won her 11th match this spring as Texas State's No. 2 player after winning a second set tiebreaker against Jonsson. Hadad won the first set by a score of 7-5 and came back to win the second set 7-6 after winning the tiebreaker by the score of 8-6.
In the No. 3 match, Baldree won third-set tiebreaker 11-9 to defeat Silva. Baldree dropped the first set 7-5 before winning the second set 6-2 and the third set 7-6.
Rojas also needed to win a tiebreaker in the first set of her singles match and went on to defeat Menon in straight sets. Rojas won the first set 7-6 after winning the tiebreaker by a score of 7-3 and came back to shut Menon out in the second set by a score of 6-0.
Van den Bergh also won the No. 6 match with a three-set victory over Carrillo. She dropped the first set 6-2, but came back to win the second and third sets by scores of 7-5.
The only loss for Texas State in singles play came in the No. 5 match when Perez dropped a 6-2, 6-2 decision against Irene Gonzalez.
The victory improves Texas State's record to 6-1 against Southland Conference teams this season. The Bobcats will close out the regular season with four home matches as Texas State plays host to Nicholls on Friday, April 6 and Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday, April 7 at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
