San Marcos, Texas – The Texas State women's tennis team continued its winning ways Monday afternoon after edging Northwestern State 4-3 in a Southland Conference match. The Bobcats improved their overall record to 8-1 and are 4-0 in SLC matches. Texas State is tied with UT Arlington atop the SLC standings with 4-0 records, while Stephen F. Austin owns a 3-0 mark. .
 
Texas State jumped out to an impressive start by taking all three doubles matches to capture what would become the decisive team doubles point. Jessica Kahts and Melissa Hadad led the way by defeating previously unbeaten Olga Bazhanova and Polina Konop in the No. 1 match by a score of 8-2.
 
In the No. 3 match Mariana Perez and Rachel Baldree defeated Linda Gamo and Amy Williams with an 8-2 decision. Gabriela Rojas and Francesca Bernes went on to beat Tatiana Larina and Andrea Nedorostova in the No. 2 match by a score of 8-4 to complete the doubles sweep.
 
In singles, the Bobcats split their matchups 3-3. By virtue of the team doubles point, Texas State took the win.
 
Kahts cruised to an impressive 6-1, 6-1 victory against previously undefeated Bazhonova in the No. 1 match to improve her record to 6-2 in dual match play. In the No. 2 match, Larina won the No. 2 match for Northwestern State with a 6-2, 6-4 decision over Hadad.
 
Baldree and Rojas both came up short in their matches with both players losing in super tiebreakers. Baldree dropped her first set 7-5 before bouncing back with a 6-4 win in the second set, but Konop outlasted her 10-8 win in a hard-fought No. 3 match. In the No. 4 match, Rojas opened up with a 6-4 win in her first set before dropping the second set 6-2 to Nedorostova. Nedorostova won the third set by a score of 10-5.
 
Texas State posted their final two victories in the No. 5 and No. 6 matches as Perez and Bérénice Van den Bergh posted 6-0, 6-2 victories. Perez won her No. 5 match over Williams, while Van den Bergh won the No. 6 match against Gamo.
 
The streaking Bobcats will return to action March 20 in a non-conference bout at home versus future WAC opponent New Mexico State. The match is set for 2:00 p.m. at Bobcat Tennis Complex.
