Tempe, Ariz. – The Bobcat softball team dropped both of their games today, with a loss to Cal and Arizona State on day two of the Kajikawa Classic hosted by ASU. Cal beat Texas State 10-0 in the first game, and then the Bobcats felt to ASU 9-0 in the second game.
Cal was able to power past Texas State as it produced 10 runs in five innings to hand the Bobcats their first run-rule of the season. After a scoreless first inning, Cal was able to score a pair of runs in the second. Cal used back-to-back singles to start the inning that would eventually lead them to score on an error. The Bears were able to score their second run after an RBI single to third base.
The Bears continued their dominance at the plate as they recorded eight hits over the next three innings that resulted in a 10-0 victory over Texas State. Macie Hair tallied the Bobcats lone hit of the game in the third inning when she singled to third base. Chandler Hall picked up the loss after 3.1 innings in the circle.
Arizona State scored eight runs in the second inning to put their stamp on the game. The Bobcats used all three pitchers to try and halt the Sun Devils scoring spree, but they made it hard. Brooke Keel singled to centerfield in the third inning for the Bobcats first hit of the game. Hall recorded the Bobcats second hit in the fourth inning with a double up the middle. Jordan Masek rounded out the Bobcats offense with a single to left field in the fifth inning. Arizona State finished with nine runs off six hits. Anne Marie Taylor was handed the loss today.
Texas State's overall record is 1-3 after the first-two days of the tournament. The Bobcats will finish play in the Kajikawa Classic on Sunday, Feb. 12. Texas State will play Washington at 9:30 a.m. and New Mexico at 2:30 p.m.
