Austin, Texas – The Texas State (4-6) men's basketball team gave Texas (6-4) a good fight tonight, but the Longhorns came away with a 75-63 win at the Frank Erwin Center.
After trailing by 11 points at the half, Texas State started the second period with back-to-back jumpers by Joel Wright and Corey Stern in the first 50 seconds to get the Bobcat offense going.
Both teams went on to trade buckets for a few minutes before Texas State went on 9-0 run to close the Longhorns lead to 52-47 thanks to baskets by Nick Hinton and Reid Koenen.
The Bobcats were down by eight points with 7:19 to go in the game, and then Koenen delivered a fast break layup to the Longhorns, which forced Texas to call a timeout and talk things out. Texas held a 58-52 edge over Texas State, but the Bobcats stayed right on their heels.
