Soccer Downed By Utah State, 4-0

Logan, Utah – In its third matchup all-time with Utah State, the Texas State soccer team was downed by the Aggies, 4-0 at Chuck and Gloria Bell Field in Logan, Utah, Sunday afternoon. With the loss, Texas State fell to 2-2 in WAC play.

 

Down 1-0 at the time, Lynsey Curry nearly had the equalizer at the 30:00 mark in the first half. She shot it from 30 yards out. The Aggie goalkeeper had the ball go off her hands and deflect off the crossbar. Utah State's defense rushed to the ball and cleared out the chance.

 

Taylor Person had an opportunity at goal, with 15 minutes in the first half. Utah State goalkeeper Ashlyn Mulford grabbed the ball outside the goal box, setting up a free kick on the 18-yard box line. Mulford redeemed herself, leaping to her right to save it.

 

The Aggies got on the board early, scoring off a cross into the center of the box, nine minutes into the first half.

 

It became 2-0 in the 18th minute, when Aggie midfielder Maris Hamblin dribbled into the box on the endline. Bobcat goalkeeper Natalie Gardini dove out of the goal to knock it away but Lauren Round of USU got possession and put it in the empty goal.

 

The Aggies extended the advantage on a breakaway with 14:10 to go in the first half. Jennifer Flynn got behind the Bobcat defense for a 1-on-1 with Gardini. Flynn managed to beat Gardini for the 3-0 lead.

The final goal of the day came with 11:21 to go in the game. Jade Tarver of USU headed a ball out of the air just inside the right post, for the final goal of the day.

 

Texas State will return to action on Friday, Oct. 12, at 7:00 p.m., at the Bobcat Soccer Complex against La. Tech. It is the only game of the week for the Bobcats.
