Texas State Closes Memorable Season with Victory over Fresno State

FRESNO, Calif. – A memorable season came to a close on a high note when Texas State (10-4-4, 3-3-2 Pac-12) took home a 3-1 victory over Fresno State (1-15-3, 0-7-1 Pac-12) on Thursday night on the road. The win marked the third consecutive season with at least 10 wins under head coach Steve Holeman.

The Bobcats came into the match needing a victory and some help from around the league to advance to the Pac-12 Tournament, but one of the pieces did not fall their way as Gonzaga topped Oregon State to claim the fourth and final spot in the bracket this evening.

A penalty issued to the Bulldogs sent sophomore Alexis Montgomery to the penalty spot in the 13th minute as she snuck her second goal of the season past the diving Bulldog keeper for an early 1-0 Bobcat advantage.

For the first time this season, Sanai Stewart found the back of the net assisted by Annabelle Fisher in the 38th minute to double the Bobcat lead. It was the 16th goal of the senior's career in her final collegiate match. Texas State would take the 2-0 lead into halftime.

Fresno State struck in the 66th minute to cut the lead in half, but the Bobcats responded when Helen Alormenu fired one into the net inside the 18-yard box. Senior Victoria Meza was credited with the assist on the play, which tied the Texas State lead in the category with Matsuri Tsutsui to close the season.

QUOTABLE
Head Coach Steve Holeman
"Our main focus was to get in here and get a result, and we did a good job with our possession after starting off a little slow. We found the back of the net three times and we'll take that in the Pac-12 on the road. There's no easy wins in this conference.

We had two wins over Power 4 programs in Texas A&M and our first-ever win over a top-10 program at Baylor leading to our first national ranking. We're obviously new to the Pac-12 and we've learned what it's like, so we'll get better moving forward."
