San Marcos, Texas – The Texas State soccer team had a good conclusion to its 2012 home schedule Friday night, beating New Mexico State, 3-0 on Senior Night. Providing the offense for the Bobcats on the night was fittingly senior forward Serena Hines who scored a goal and had two assists.
Texas State got on the board before most fans were even in their seats, scoring 38 seconds into the match. Hines took the ball down the center of the field, tapped it to her left and Taylor Kelley took a touch before ripping it in the left side of the net from 18 yards out for the 1-0 lead.
The Bobcats and Aggies played the rest of the half to a draw, with the Bobcats owning an 8-5 shot advantage through the first 45 minutes.
Hines added her second assist of the night in the 59th minute going down the center of the field again and this time she dished to her right side as Tori Hale was waiting to put it in for a 2-0 lead. It was Hale's team-leading fifth goal of the year.
The Bobcats final goal came off the foot of Hines herself in the 87th minute. Lynsey Curry dribbled along the left side of the field and took it towards the endline before crossing it in the center of the box towards Hines who one-timed it in for the final tally of the night.
With the win, the Bobcats improved to 3-3-0 in WAC play and have two games remaining in the regular season. Texas State will next be in action on Sunday afternoon in Denver, as the team takes on the No. 23 Pioneers at 12:00 p.m., Mountain time.
