Women's Tennis Advances To SLC Semifinals With 4-3 Win Over Stephen F. Austin

San Antonio, Texas –
The Texas State women's tennis team advanced to the semifinals of the Southland Conference Championship for the second straight year, after beating Stephen F. Austin 4-3, Friday evening at the UTSA Tennis Center.

The Bobcats were in for a tough fight even after going up 3-1 early. The Ladyjacks fought back to make it 3-3, and pushed the final match between Jessica Kahts and Alinza Shahzko to a third set after Shahzko fought off a 5-3 deficit in the second set. Kahts was able to clinch the match for the Bobcats on a double fault by Shahzko to win the third set 6-3.

Mariana Perez had one of the most dominating performances on the day, teaming with Jessica Laing to beat the SFA tandem of Meaghan Ocanas and Ksenia Berestetska 8-5. She followed it up with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Andreea Enica.

Gabriella Rojas and Berenice Van Den Bergh had a convincing victory over the Lady Jack duo of Paola Montuenga and Enica 8-2, to seal the doubles point for Texas State.

The win pits Texas State against UT-Arlington at 3 p.m. on Saturday. The Mavericks enter the match the top seed in the SLC Tournament.
