Nacogdoches, Texas – The Texas State women's tennis team suffered its third straight Southland Conference loss when the Bobcats suffered a hard-fought 4-3 setback at Stephen F. Austin at the Schliet Tennis Complex on Saturday afternoon.
The Ladyjacks captured the team doubles point after winning two of the three matches, Texas State's lone win in doubles play came in the No. 3 match when Jessica Laing and Mariana Perez defeated Meaghan Ocanas and Ksenia Berestetska 8-6. In the top doubles match, Melissa Hadad and Jessica Kahts dropped an 8-1 decision against Alina Shazhko and Alice Pacaut. In the No. 2 match, Gabriela Rojas and Bérénice Van Den Bergh suffered an 8-6 setback against Andreea Enica and Paola Montuenga.
Texas State scored their three team points with Hadad, Laing and Perez won their singles matches. Hadad defeated Montuenga 6-4, 6-2 in her No. 2 match. Laing won the No. 4 match in two sets 6-4, 6-4, and Perez defeated Enica in three sets by a score of 3-6, 6-1, 7-6.
Two of the other three matches were decided in three sets as Shazhko defeated Kahts 6-4, 6-7, 6-3 in the No. 1 match, and Ocanas won the No. 6 match 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 over Van Den Bergh. In the No. 3 match, Rojas suffered a 6-2, 6-3 loss against Berestetska.
The loss was Texas State's third straight setback in Southland Conference matches after the Bobcats suffered a 6-1 loss against Northwestern State in Denton on March 25 and a 7-0 loss at #59 UT Arlington on March 26. Texas State will travel to Sam Houston State on Sunday, April 3.
