Arlington, Texas - The Texas State women's tennis team suffered its second straight Southland Conference loss when the Bobcats dropped a 7-0 decision at No. 59-ranked UT Arlington on Saturday afternoon.
The dual match began with UTA winning all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 heading into singles action.
In the No. 1 match, Daiana Negreanu and Linda Aqvist defeated Melissa Hadad and Jessica Kahts by a score of 8-1. In the No. 2 match, Gabriela Rojas and Bérénice Van Den Bergh dropped an 8-2 decision in their No. 2 match against Natalia Mayuk and Gladdis D'orltona. In the No. 3 match, Jessica Laing and Mariana Perez also fell 8-2 against Maria Martinez and Nikola Matovicova.
In singles action, UTA clinched the victory when Martinez beat Rojas defeated Martinez 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 3 match, Mayuk shut out Laing 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 4 match and D'vortona won the No. 5 match 6-1, 6-2.
The Mavericks also won the other three singles matches, but each of them was hard-fought battles. In the No. 1 match, Negreanu edged Kahts 6-4, 7-6, while Hadad fell 6-4, 7-5 in the No. 2 match. In the No. 6 contest, Van Den Bergh suffered a 6t-4, 6-3 loss against Matovicova.
Following the loss, Texas State will travel to Nacogdoches, Texas on April 2 when the Bobcats play a Southland Conference match at Stephen F. Austin, Texas State enters the SFA match with a 6-6 overall record and a 2-3 mark in Southland Conference matches.
