Women’s Tennis Team Falls 7-0 At No. 48 Rice

Houston, Texas - The Texas State women's tennis team suffered its second straight loss on a road trip to Houston when the Bobcats fell 7-0 against No. 48-ranked Rice at the Jake Hess Tennis Center on Sunday morning.  

 

The Bobcats began the day in doubles play, where Rice won all three matches. Gabriela Rojas and Jessica Laing suffered an 8-1 loss in the No. 2 doubles match against Alex Rasch and Dominique Harmath, while Mariana Perez and Bérénice Van Den Bergh lost their No. 3 match against Jessica Jackson and Daniella Trigo. In the top doubles match, Melissa Hadad and Jessica Kahts suffered an 8-2 setback against Rebekka Hanle and Ana Guzman.

 

The Owls also won all six singles matches as Rojas suffered an  6-0, 6-1 loss in the No. 3 match, while Laing fell  to Guzman in the No. 4 match 6-0, 6-1, and Kahts suffered a 6-1, 6-0 setback against Hanle to clinch the victory for the Owls.

 

In the other singles matches, Hadad suffered a 6-0, 6-1 setback against Harmath, while Van Den Bergh suffered a 6-4, 6-1 loss against Kim Anicete. Mariana Perez took Rasch to a tiebreaker in the second set of her match before falling 6-0, 7-6 with Rasch winning the tiebreaker 7-4.

                                                                  

Texas State looks to rebound on Friday, February 18, when the Bobcats play host to St. Edwards at 1:00 p.m. Texas State is 2-0 in home matches this season at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
