Natchitoches, La. – For the fifth time in program history the Texas State soccer team is Southland Conference Champion after beating Stephen F. Austin 1-0, Sunday at the Demon Soccer Complex in Natchitoches, La.
At the start of the second half Erica Michaud chased down a long ball from Felicia Leask. Michaud stole a ball away from a defender and went one-on-one with All-Southland Conference goalkeeper Lacey Lee, beating her for the 1-0 lead.
In the eighth minute, Laura Sadler of SFA, ripped a shot from 25 yards out, but it went just wide. A minute later, Kylie Louw sent a leading pass to Chelsea Raymond, but Raymond's shot was stopped by a diving Lauren Frazier.
With 25 minutes left in the first half Raymond let another shot fly from the top of the 18 yard box, but Frazier fully extended upwards, to catch the shot.
The Bobcats' best chance came with just under nine minutes left in the period. Texas State got numbers in the box, and Felicia Leask tried to put a loose ball home, but it was blocked, keeping it scoreless.
Raymond had a breakaway with 28 minutes left , but her shot went just left of the goal, keeping the Bobcat lead at 1-0.
Leask had a breakaway opportunity with 11:30 remaining in the second half, but a LadyJack caught up to her as she dished it off to Gabbi Cottee, which Lee intercepted before Cottee could shoot it.
The Bobcats now await their fate for the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The selection show is at 3:30 on Monday afternoon. It will be streamed live on NCAA.com.
