San Marcos, Texas – Senior midfielder Kendell Webber fittingly led the Texas State soccer team on Senior Day to a 2-0 win over Lamar, Sunday at the Bobcat Soccer Complex, for the team's fifth straight win and ninth win in its last ten.
Felicia Leask got the Bobcats on the board first, taking a touch pass from Webber and splitting two defenders down the middle of the field, before putting a shot past the drawn out Lamar goalkeeper for a 1-0 lead. It was Leask's eighth goal of the year, a team-high.
The Bobcats had two great opportunities in the first five minutes. Taylor Person first send a great leading pass that Felicia Leask ran behind the defense to collect the ball. She then released a shot that was stopped by Lamar goalkeeper Jennifer Gibbs. 45 seconds later, Taylor Kelley sent a pass to the back post for Katie Herrick, but Herrick's shot went just wide.
Coming out of halftime Leask tried to return the favor to Webber, sending her a pass behind the defense. Webber caught up the pass but her resulting shot was deflected by Gibbs who came out of the goal to meet Webber.
Texas State made it 2-0 in the 55th minute when Herrick kicked a ball towards the goal. Gibbs tried to come up and snatch it out of the air, but her feet got tangled up with Leask, who tapped the ball over to Webber for the goal.
The Bobcats will finish the regular season on the road next weekend, beginning on Friday at Southeastern Louisiana at 3:00 p.m., in Hammond, La.
