Bobcats travel to El Paso; Face Utah Valley and Fresno State

San Marcos, Texas -
The Texas State women's soccer team will look to bounce back from a 2-0 loss to Texas Tech in the 2010 season opener this weekend when they travel to the 13th-annual Miners' Classic, hosted by UTEP in El Paso.
 
The Miners' Classic is slated to run from Aug. 27-29 at University Field. Joining Texas State is Fresno State, Utah Valley University and tournament-host UTEP to comprise the field. The event was first held in 1997 and it has been contested in every year since 1999.
 
Texas State will not see action against UTEP this season, but will face Utah Valley and Fresno State in the two-day jaunt on Friday and Sunday, respectively.

Scouting Utah Valley
The Wolverines enter the weekend of games with a 1-1 record after splitting the opening weekend.
 
UVU blanked Southern Utah, 2-0, in their sea­son opener before being blanked themselves by Utah State.
Nicole Spencer and Camille Broderick, both All-Conference honorees from the 2009 sea­son, notched the two goals for the season.
 
Spencer, a First Team All-Great West selection, leads the pack of 17 returning letterwinners that are back from a 2009 Great West Cham­pionship.
 
Scouting Fresno State
Despite two close attempts at a victory, Fresno State will enter the Miners' Classic winless.
 
The Bulldogs lost their season opener to Pep­perdine, 2-0, and fell to Long Beach State, 1-0, on Sunday.
 
The squad returns at the helm of second-year head coach Brian Zwaschka with 14 letterwin­ners and all 11 starters. In 2009, FSU finished 6-13 with a 4-4, sixth-place standing in the WAC.
 
Scouting Texas State
Texas State is back from a 2009 championship season. The Bobcats finished 14-6-1 overall and 8-0-1 in Southland Conference action, claiming its second consecutive regular season title.
 
The team returns 15 letterwinners and eight starters, including 2009 SLC Player of the Year Britney Curry. The Bobcats have also added eight newcomers to the mix.

It's home, sweet home for the Bobcats fol­lowing the weekend tournament. Texas State will host UC Riverside and Navy for the first weekend in September.

 

UCR will serve as the home opener, Friday, Sept. 3 and Navy will close out the weekend, Sunday, Sept. 5.
