ARLINGTON, Texas - Landon Ferguson led Texas State on the final day of the Southland Conference Track and Field Championships. Ferguson, won the men's crown in the pole vault, leading the men to an eighth place finish with 52.5 points. The women placed third with a total of 80.5 points; falling out of the top two for the first time in ten years.
Ferguson topped the pole vault with a height of 4.92 meters (16-01.75). Logan Cunningham placed fifth with a vault of 4.77 meters (15-07.75).
Capping off the sprinting events for the women were Iris Darrington and Renee Shepard. Darrington placed fifth in the 200 meters (24.16) and eighth in the 100 meters (12.23). Shepard grabbed seventh place in the 100 meters (12.18) and eighth in the 200 meters with (25.12).
Jennie Thomas clocked a time of 1:03.49 in the 400-meter hurdles to earn a sixth place finish.
The women's 4x100-meter relay of Jessica Thomas, Shepard, Morgan Canty and Darrington placed fifth with a time of 46.73. The 4x400-meter relay team of Liat Anav, Ryann Bradford, Darrington and Shepard recorded a time of 3:49.11 for sixth place.
The Bobcat women earned 16 points in the pole vault led by Elena Horn, who grabbed second place with a vault of 3.75 meters (12-03.50). Jennifer Matthews registered the same height for third place. Jannah Evans rounded out the group with a seventh place vault of 3.45 meters (11-03.75).
In the discus throw the women placed 3-4-7. Katy Hanie earned the bronze medal with a distance of 45.10 meters (147-11). Kelsey Titzman took fourth with a mark of 44.44 meters (145-10), and Katherine Bakke recorded a throw of 42.92 meters (140-10).
In the triple jump, Asiya Iskakova took seventh place with a mark of 12.04 meters (39-06.00). For the men, Goldstein Okafor took seventh in the event with a leap of 14.76 meters (48-05.25).
On the track for the men, Kevin Aje sprinted to a personal best time of 10.43 in the 100-meter finals for a fifth place finish. In the 800 meters, William Taudien placed fifth in a time of 1:53.40 and Jack Petersen crossed the line in 1:54.38.
Timothy Young registered a time of 14.49 in the 100-meter hurdles for sixth place. In the 400-meter hurdles, Gil Sheleg had a time of 52.62 seconds for fourth place, while Dijan Johnson placed seventh in 55.63 seconds.
The men's 4x100-meter relay team of Brandon Thomas, Stefon Hargrove, Young and Aje placed fifth with a time of 40.98. The 4x400-meter relay team of Gerry Kammer, Gil Sheleg, Brandon Thomas and Steve Farris clocked a time of 3:25.19.
Daniel Schmidt continued to do well as he earned the bronze medal in the discus with a throw of 49.28 meters (161-08).
Ferguson and Lisa Bingham were the only Bobcats to bring home individual titles from the championships.
