Soccer Wins 1-0 Thriller Over McNeese State

- In the 95th minute Britney Curry scored her 11th goal of the season, to give Texas State a 1-0 victory in overtime over McNeese State, Sunday afternoon in Lake Charles, La. The goal continued a dominating performance from the second half that continued through the end of the game.

In the second 45 minutes, Texas State outshot McNeese 9-4 and had an advantage of corners, with an 8-1 gap.

Curry had a prime opportunity to get the Bobcats on the board in the first five minutes of the game as she got a shot right in front of the goal. However McNeese State goalkeeper Cassandra Read was able to get her body in front of the ball to knock it away.

The Texas State defense helped out Natalie Gardini in her second straight start in goal. In the first 45 minutes they head two team saves and were able to clear a loose ball out of the zone after Gardini was knocked down.

Sydney Curry had a shot that appeared to be headed for the goal and give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead in the 80th minute. Unfortunately at the last second Read knocked the ball away as it was about to go into the bottom left corner.

In the 87th minute Gabbi Cottee had a one-on-one opportunity with the defender who she was able to get around and shoot it into the right corner before having Read knock another close shot away.

During the first overtime, Alissa Scott got a ball in the attacking zone and went streaking down the middle between two defenders, before unleashing a shot just wide.

With the win Texas State improved to 9-5-1 and 3-1-1 in the Southland Conference. The team will return to action at home next weekend, for a two-game homestand, beginning with a 7:00 p.m. match against Nicholls University.
