No. 21 Texas State Continues Homestand Hosting Texas Southern

SAN MARCOS, Texas - No. 21 Texas State (4-0-1) looks to remain unbeaten through the first six matches of the season since 2022 when it hosts Texas Southern (1-2-1) on Sunday night at the Bobcat Soccer Complex. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. (CT).

SCOUTING THE BOBCATS
  • Texas State is most recently coming off its first shutout of the season with a 2-0 victory over East Texas A&M, after totaling six shutouts a season ago. Prior to Thursday, the Bobcats notched its first-ever back-to-back victories over Power 4 opponents, with a Wednesday night victory over Texas A&M, marking the first Bobcat victory over an SEC opponent in program history. The attendance at the Bobcat Soccer Complex slotted in at number six all-time in the single match attendance category, with 873. The first-ever victory over a ranked opponent came on Sunday night at No. 6 Baylor, when a 3-1 final score secured a historic week for the Cats.
  • The early going in 2026 is the first time the Bobcats have been unbeaten through its first five matches since 2022.
  • For the first time in program history, Texas State women's soccer entered the national rankings in the IWSOC/USC Coaches Poll, landing at No. 21 following the back-to-back victories over Texas A&M and then-No. 6 Baylor. The Bobcats are also ranked first in the Pacific Region, and the only ranked program in the state of Texas. The team is also the first to break into the national Top-25 as members of the Pac-12 Conference.

SCOUTING THE TIGERS
  • Texas Southern has played familiar competition to start the 2026 campaign and will continue over the course of its non-conference slate, as all 10 non-con matches feature in-state opponents.
  • Four contests in the early going write a 1-2-1 record, with its lone win being in the season opener hosting the Vaqueros by a 2-0 final score. Tiger keeper Alessandra Bastidas made four saves in the shutout.
  • TSU would go on to drop the next two contests at Houston Christian (0-1) and Incarnate Word (1-2) before playing to a 1-1 draw with UTSA, fueled by an Ava Coverdale 84th minute goal and an impressive seven saves from keeper Alicia Audu.

ALL-TIME SERIES HISTORY
  • Texas State is 3-0 all-time versus the Tigers of Texas Southern with a few unique facts in their brief history.
  • The two programs met for the first time in 2004 on Aug. 29, when the Bobcats posted its largest margin of victory in program history by a 13-0 final score. It is one of just two matches in Texas State history won by a difference of 10+ goals (Grambling, 10-0, 8/25/11). Natalie Holder tied the single-match program record of four goals by an individual player, and has not been tied again since then.
  • Head coach Steve Holeman secured his 300th career win when the teams faced off in their most recent meeting, on Sep. 7, 2023. Before that match, the teams hadn't met since 2012.
