No. 21 Texas State Set to Host East Texas A&M

SAN MARCOS, Texas - Texas State (3-0-1) will play its first match in program history inside the top-25 national rankings as the Bobcats begin a three-match home stretch on Thursday night hosting East Texas A&M (1-1-1) at 7:30 p.m. (CT).

SCOUTING THE BOBCATS
  • For the first time in program history, Texas State women's soccer entered the national rankings in the IWSOC/USC Coaches Poll, landing at No. 21 following the back-to-back victories over Texas A&M and then-No. 6 Baylor. The Bobcats are also ranked first in the Pacific Region, and the only ranked program in the state of Texas. The team is also the first to break into the national Top-25 as members of the Pac-12 Conference.
  • Helen Alormenu and Jenny Ngankem were named the Offensive and Defensive Pac-12 Conference Players of the Week respectively on Tuesday, Aug. 25. It is the first time a pair of Bobcats have taken home both offensive and defensive Conference Player of the Week honors in the same week since Mady Soumare and Katelyn Chrisman garnered the awards in the 2024 season (11/3).
  • Texas State is most recently coming off first-ever back-to-back victories over Power 4 opponents, with a Wednesday night victory over Texas A&M, marking the first Bobcat victory over an SEC opponent in program history. The attendance at the Bobcat Soccer Complex slotted in at number six all-time in the single match attendance category, with 873. The first-ever victory over a ranked opponent came on Sunday night at No. 6 Baylor, when a 3-1 final score secured a historic week for the Cats.

SCOUTING THE LIONS
  • East Texas A&M owns a 1-1-1 start to its 2026 campaign with a season opener victory over Grambling, 1-0. The victory marked the third straight season opener victory for the Lions.
  • In its home opener, the Lions dropped the match to Oklahoma by a 2-0 final score after the Sooners outshot the Lions 26-5. The 643 attendance number was the largest since 2022.
  • A back-and-forth contest hosting the Ragin' Cajuns resulted in a 3-3 draw. East Texas A&M will travel north to take on Abilene Christian after playing Texas State.

ALL-TIME SERIES HISTORY
  • Formerly Texas A&M-Commerce from 1996-2024, East Texas A&M and Texas State have only met once in the history of the two programs.
  • The meeting came in the 2024 season, resulting in a 3-1 Bobcat victory in Commerce, Texas. Halle Garcia tallied a goal at the backend of the first half and Caitlyn Draper made four saves to fuel the victory in the 1 p.m. start road contest on Sep. 7, 2024.
  • The Lions are set to make its first visit to Bobcat Soccer Complex on Thursday night.
