NEW ORLEANS – The Sun Belt Conference announced Tuesday afternoon that for the first time this season, Texas State softball won both Pitcher and Player of the Week, sweeping the conference weekly awards.
Player of the Week is
Aiyana Coleman, Texas State's first basemen, where Pitcher of the Week is the Bobcats' left-handed pitcher Maddy Azua.
For Coleman, despite having won Sun Belt Conference Player and Newcomer of the Year in 2025, this is the first Sun Belt Conference weekly award of her career. This comes after a week where Coleman was only afforded six at-bats, but hit three times for three home runs in her efficiency. Coleman was walked seven times throughout the weekend, four times intentionally. Of these intentional walks, one was with the bases loaded against Southern Miss.
Additionally, Coleman's solo home run in the midweek was the first run of the Bobcats 3-0 win over #3 Texas Tech. Coleman's 6 RBI this week helped Texas State to three wins while she got on base at a .769 rate this week.
For Azua, it's the seventh time in her career being named Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week, her fourth this season.
Azua was named Sun Belt Conference Preseason Pitcher of the Year ahead of the start of the 2026 season after earning the title of Pitcher of the Year in the 2025 season. She is the only pitcher so far this season to earn more than two Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week awards. Texas State pitchers have won six of the 11 Pitcher of the Week Accolades so far this season.
Azua's week included two wins, starting the week with a complete game shutout against #3 Texas Tech. Her second win came while allowing just one run against Southern Miss. Throughout 21.0 innings this week, Azua allowed just three runs and walked just three batters while striking out 13. She only surrendered 13 hits, three for extra bases throughout the week. Her win versus Texas Tech was her 20
th win of the season, while the weekend win was the 50
th of her career.
Coleman, Azua and the rest of the Bobcats will return to action tomorrow, April 22, against Baylor. First pitch is at 6 pm and fans can purchase tickets at txst.com/tickets. The team will then continue host Coastal Carolina this weekend for the final home games of the season. The weekend series will begin at 6 pm on April 24
