Bobcats Level the Series at Louisiana with 4-2 Win

Box Score LAFAYETTE, Louisiana – Texas State softball leveled the series at Louisiana with a 4-0 win on Saturday afternoon.

Three of the Bobcats four runs were unearned as the team capitalized on Ragin Cajun errors, with the fourth run coming off an RBI single by Karmyn Bass. Additionally, Kaili Witherell tossed 6.1 innings in a relief effort for the win.

How it Happened:
Texas State got on the board early after a leadoff single from Karmyn Bass. She'd go on to score when the Ragin Cajuns had a throwing error on Harley Vestal's sac-bunt attempt.

Abigail Jennings started the game for the Bobcats, striking out the first batter she faced. After hitting a batter and walking the next, though, head coach Ricci Woodard opted to bring in Kaili Witherell. Witherell got the Cajuns to hit into a double play to escape the first inning unscathed.

Both sides counted errors in the second inning, but neither side added a run. It was the Bobcats in the third inning to score next, capitalizing off a fielding error by Louisiana to score two runs after Harvey reached from a single and Vestal was walked.

Witherell gave up a leadoff double in the 4th but went on to retire the side in order after that.

Texas State added a run in the 4th with both Kelnar and Hood being hit by a pitch, Kelnar coming around to score on a Bass single. From there, they loaded the bases, but a Coleman strikeout ended the inning before any runs could score. Witherell retired the side in order in bottom half of the inning.

Texas State loaded the bases again in the 5th with a Bubela single and walks for Hood and Kelnar, but failed to add any runs to the board. The Bobcat defense helped keep the Cajuns off the board in the 5th with their third double play and a deep fly out to center caught by Sydney Harvey.

The Bobcats put more runners on in the 6th but didn't add any more runs, Witherell retired the side in order again in the bottom half of the inning. Texas State put a runner on in the 7th but no runs were scored.

Louisiana pulled back two runs in the 7th, but Maddy Azua came in to close the game and solidified the 4-2 win.

After today's win, Texas State is now 20-11 on the season and 3-2 in Sun Belt play.
