Bobcats Fall at No. 23 Texas A&M

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas State baseball team (12-8) held its own against 23rd-ranked Texas A&M (17-3) but ultimately fell 9-6 Tuesday night at Blue Bell Park.

Gavin Lyons (2-0) got the win after striking out three in 3.1 innings of relief while Clayton Freshcorn recorded the final three outs to claim his fourth save of the season. Will Canalichio (0-1) threw a season-high 3.2 innings in his first start as a Bobcat but surrendered five runs on four walks and three hits to take the loss.

Alex Yearwood struck out two in 3.1 innings out of the bullpen. Retiring all three batters he faced was Alec Beversdorf.

Rashawn Galloway was the lone Bobcat with multiple hits as he recorded two infield singles. He was also one of six players to drive in a run along with Jackson Cotton, Ethan Farris, Chase Mora, Dawson Park, Manny Salas and Jaquae Stewart.

It was a station-to-station inning for the Bobcats in the second that began with three straight singles. Stewart brought in the first run of the game on a base knock to centerfield. Mora then laced a single down the right field line to double the advantage.

After Brady Boles walked on four pitches to load the bases, Cotton grounded out to the first baseman that plated a run. Galloway extended his hitting streak to 13 games with an infield single that scored the fourth run of the frame.

The Aggies would get on the scoreboard and take the lead with a seven-run fourth inning.

Galloway led off the next half inning by drawing a walk. He would scamper around the base path to score from first on Park's double. Back-to-back groundouts allowed the sophomore shortstop to advance 90 feet each time and cross home plate to cut the deficit to 7-6.

In the seventh, the Aggies got a two-run homer from Caden Sorrell to increase their advantage back up to three.

Boles would work a free pass and Galloway beat out a slow chopper to third for an infield single to put two on with two outs in the ninth. Park went the other way on a 2-1 offering but the right fielder had plenty of room to make the game-ending catch.

Next up for Texas State is the first Sun Belt Conference series at home when 25th-ranked Louisiana comes to town. The first game of the three-game set is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Friday.
