Emma Strood Named Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week after No-Hitter vs St. Francis

NEW ORLEANS – The Sun Belt Conference announced Tuesday that senior pitcher Emma Strood was named Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week for week 5. This is Strood's first Pitcher of the Week award of her career.

Strood recorded two wins to earn herself Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week, starting off with the 21st no-hitter in Texas State history against St. Francis. Her complete game effort saw just one walk and 12 strikeouts to shut down St. Francis and help Texas State start the week off with a win.

From there, she got the win against #15 Texas A&M to close out the weekend with a five-inning, one-run outing with an additional three strikeouts. Strood allowed just one earned run and three hits in 13.0 innings of work while striking out 15 batters and walking three. She held batters to a .071 average as she helped Texas State to three wins in the San Marcos Showdown, including its second top 25 win of the season.

This is Texas State's second Pitcher of the Week accolade of the year, with Maddy Azua earning the honor in the second week. Texas State boasts two of the league's top-10 ERA's in Azua and Strood.

Strood and the rest of the Bobcats will return to action tomorrow, March against Sam Houston. The team will then close out its 24-game home stand on the weekend against ULM in its conference opener. The three-game series will run March 13-15 inside Bobcat Softball Stadium. All four games this week will be streamed on ESPN+, or fans can purchase tickets at txst.com/tickets.
