Texas State Falls to #2 Texas

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State baseball team (12-4) fell on Tuesday night to 2-ranked Texas (16-0) 15-4 at Bobcat Ballpark in front of a record crowd of 3,482.

Ethan Walker (1-0) picked up the win after recording two outs in relief. Taking the loss was Titan Targac (1-3) after he allowed two runs on two hits and three walks while striking out two in his first collegiate start.

Out of the bullpen, Alex Yearwood tossed 1.1 scoreless innings with three strikeouts. Shane Connell, Alizaeh Gutierrez and Cade Smith all recorded two punch outs apiece.

Rashawn Galloway extended his hitting streak to nine games as he went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and RBI. Dawson Park hit his fourth home run of the season that brought home three runs. Also recording a hit on the night was Jackson Cotton and Justin Vossos.

UT struck first with two runs in the first and extended its lead with three runs in the third and two more in the fourth.

In the bottom of the fourth, Galloway would single up the middle and Manny Salas was plunked to put two on with two gone. Park sent the first pitch he saw over the left centerfield wall for a three-run homer. The long ball extended his home run streak to four straight games to tie the school record set by Luke Cannon in 2004.

The Longhorns tallied a run in the seventh. TXST answered back in its half of the inning when Galloway doubled to left center that plated Cotton form first.

Over the next two innings, UT scored seven runs to end the Bobcats' hopes of a late rally.

Sun Belt Conference play for Texas State begins this weekend when the team travels to take on ULM for a three-game series that begins on Friday at 6 p.m.
