SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Bobcat bats were effective on Thursday afternoon as Texas State took a 7-0 win over Texas A&M – Corpus Christi to open its weekend at home.
Kate Bubela became the first Bobcat to hit two home runs in game since
Aiyana Coleman at Coastal Carolina on March 23, 2025 in the game, going 2-2 on the night with 4 RBI. She was one of eight Bobcats to contribute to the team's 10 hits against the Islanders.
Keely Williams also went 2-2 on the night with two doubles.
Karmyn Bass recorded two RBI on her triple and the final RBI was from Zarate's double. Six of the Bobcats' 10 hits were for extra-bases.
How it Happened:
Maddy Azua started in the circle for the Bobcats, getting three strikeouts to set the team's momentum off on the right foot. Despite loading the bases, she escaped the inning unscathed with the three K's.
From there, the Bobcat bats carried the team, beginning with a leadoff double from Williams. She'd advance to third on
Harley Vestal's at-bat. The pair would score on Bass' triple, the 9
th of her career, which ties her for 6
thmost in program history.
Bass would go on to score from Zarate's double down the line. Bubela followed that at-bat up by sending the first pitch off the Islanders new pitcher out of the yard. The 219 foot bomb was Bubela's third of the season, good for 2 RBI and to give the Bobcats a 5-0 lead after the first inning.
Azua struck out another batter in the 2
nd, and head coach
Ricci Woodard opted to bring in freshman
Chesney Davis in the 3
rd. In the bottom half of the third, Bubela did it again. This time just 203 feet out to left field, Bubela hit her second-consecutive homer on the day on what ended up being her final at-bat. She scored
Emily Fish who had come into pinch run for Coleman.
Davis struck out two more batters in the top of the 4
th, then
Kaili Witherell came in to pitch in the 5
th.
Neither side added any runs the remainder of the game, and
Abigail Jennings came in to close the game out in the 7
th. In the end, Texas State held its 7-0 win for its 2
nd shutout win of the season.
After today's game, Texas State is now 10-6 on the season.
