SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State Softball closed out the River State Classic with a run-rule victory against Brown and an extra-inning loss to Colorado State. Between the two games, 21 Bobcats saw action including
Ava Renteria's first career start and
Savannah Coleman's first start as a Bobcat.
In the first game against Brown, it took the Bobcats until the 6
th inning to get the run-rule win, but a four-run bottom of the inning helped the Bobcats to the win, highlighted by an RBI double from
Karmyn Bass to score
Chesney Davis in her first run of her career.
How it Happened:Â
TXST 10, Brown 2 (6 inn.)
Maddy Azua started in the circle for the Bobcats, getting the win on the day with two strikeouts in the first and a third in the second to start the game out. The Bobcats put runners on in the first two innings, but it took until the third for them to score.
The game started with
Sydney Harvey walking, going on to steal second. From there, Williams walked but got thrown out at 2
nd on
Harley Vestal's at-bat. Harvey would go on to score after a Bass single and
Aiyana Coleman reached on an error. They'd add a second run on a bases-loaded walk to score Reeves who pinch ran for Vestal.
Texas State added two more on an RBI single from Bass and another bases loaded walk in the bottom of the 4th.Â
Analisa Soliz came in to close the game out in the top of the 5
th.
Williams would hit an RBI single in the 5
th to make it a five-run game, but Brown pulled two runs back in the 6
th to make it 5-2 off a solo home run.
Texas State scored its four runs to put the game to bed in the 6
th on an RBI double from Garrett, a sac-fly from
Sophie Sandel, a 2 RBI single from Reeves and an RBI double from Bass.
TXST 2, Colorado State 3 (10 inn.)
Emma Strood started in the circle for the afternoon game, tossing three innings and striking out three batters while allowing two doubles. Azua pitched the remainder of the game, starting with a strikeout in the fourth inning.
It took until the 6
th inning for Colorado State to break the deadlock, which came on an error by
Bailee Slack. The Bobcats answered in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI walk from Garrett, she scored Bass who reached on an error.
Neither side did anything from there until the extra-innings began. Colorado State scored on an RBI single, which Texas State answered with a sac-fly to score Williams in the 8
th inning.
Colorado State hit an RBI single in the 10
th inning, which the Bobcats couldn't answer after a Bass lineout turned into a double play.Â
After today's two games, Texas State is now 9-6 on the season.

Texas State will stay home for a single game against Texas A&M – Corpus Christi on Thursday, Feb. 26 at 3 pm inside Bobcat Softball Stadium.
