Bobcats Drop Midweek Tilt at Baylor

WACO, Texas – The first midweek and road game of the season saw Texas State (3-1) fall to Baylor (4-0) Tuesday night by a score of 14-4 from Magnolia Field at Baylor Ballpark.

Picking up the win on the rubber was Charlie Atkinson (1-0) after throwing two scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Ryan Markwardt (0-1) two runs on three walks and one hit while recording two outs to take the loss.

Both Rashawn Galloway and Manny Salas went 2-for-4 at the plate. Galloway hit a triple, scored a run and drove in a run while Salas recorded a double. Jaquae Stewart hit a two-run home run and Chase Mora blasted a solo shot.

Throwing a game-high 2.1 innings was Titan Targac, who struck out one and gave up a one on two hits. Alec Beversdorf punched out two batters in two frames of work.

Also throwing an inning of relief with a strikeout was Josh Glaser. A strikeout apiece was recorded by Cameron O'Banan, Braylen Timmins and Glaser.

The first five batters of the game reached base for the Bears with two coming around to score. Beversdorf came on and got the Bobcats out of the bases loaded jam with a strikeout looking and inducing an inning-ending double play.

In the second, Baylor tacked on another run with three straight two out hits to extend its lead to 3-0.

Jackson Cotton worked a one out walk in the third. He would come home when Galloway tripled to the right centerfield gap. A two-run homer down the right field line by Stewart on a 1-1 pitch tied the game.

A 2-1 offering to Mora was smacked 396 feet over the left centerfield wall to put Texas State in front. The long ball was the 33rd of the senior's career to move him into a tie for second place with Jose Gonzalez in program history.

Baylor would get back on the scoreboard in the fifth with a three-run frame to retake the lead. The hosts would add to their advantage with five runs in the sixth. Two more runs were added in the seventh and another in the eighth.

Next up for the Bobcats is a three-game home series that beings on Friday at 6 p.m. against Gonzaga.
