SAN MARCOS, Texas – An early lead would not hold for Texas State as it fell 5-1 to Arizona State on Sunday at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.

With the result, the Bobcats drop to 2-1-1 on the year while the Sun Devils are now 2-0-1.

Just as the match entered the eighth minute,
Chloe Jones was knocked down near the top left corner of the 18-yard box for a free kick opportunity.
Matsuri Tsutsui sent the ball into the box where
Mady Soumare ran onto it and headed past the goalkeeper to put Texas State up 1-0.

ASU would tie the match late in the 20th minute on a flick header from Sierra Bergen. The visitors tacked on two more goals in the opening half to take a 3-1 lead into the break.

Bergen netted her second goal of the match just over two minutes into the second half. The final tally of the contest came in the 63rd minute courtesy of Tatum Thomason.

Soumare paced the Bobcats with three shots and placed all of them on frame. Only other player with multiple shot attempts was Constance Agemang with two.

Brooklyn Escobar made five saves on the afternoon. She played the first 81 minutes before being relieved by Maude Roanet.

Next up for TXST is a meeting with former Southland Conference rival Stephen F. Austin on Thursday at the Bobcat Soccer Complex for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
