SAN MARCOS, Texas – In its first road match of the season, the Texas State soccer team (2-0-0) took down Incarnate Word (1-1-0) 5-0 from Benson Stadium on Sunday.
Â
Five different Bobcats scored on the evening with
Chloe Jones,
Victoria Meza and
Kaylie Smith scoring their first goals of the season.
Katrin Agustsdottir found the back of the net for the third time in the early season and
Sadie Guzman tallied her second of the year.
Â
Brooklyn Escobar started her second straight match in goal to pick up the win.
Maude Rouanet stopped three shots in the second half.
Â
Just over three and a half minutes into the match,
Helen Alormenu sent a ball into the box that saw Agustsdottir get her foot on it to flick it past the Cardinal goalkeeper for the 1-0 lead.
Â
Off a corner kick nearly halfway through the 13th minute, a clearance attempt deflected off of
Kennley Bradley right to Meza. The junior midfielder hit the ball off the ricochet with her right foot into the right corner to double the advantage.
Â
Guzman added to the lead a little over seven minutes later when she knocked in her own rebound. Smith capped off the scoring in the first half early in the 29th minute. A corner sent into the box was headed by a defender that saw the ball go right to the Corpus Christi native. She sent a low, left-footed shot to the bottom of the left frame for the tally.
Â
The lone goal of the second half for the Bobcats came midway through the 67th minute. Guzman drove down the left side and sent a cross into the box. The ball hit off a defender and bounced to Jones, who smacked a right-footed attempt into the upper portion of the frame for her first career goal since 2023.
Â
Next up for the Bobcats is a trip to College Station to take on Texas A&M. The contest is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff on Wednesday.
