SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State soccer team (1-0-0) opened the 2025 season with a record-setting victory Thursday night as it claimed a 9-1 win over Our Lady of the Lake at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.
The Bobcats ended up setting new match records with 11 assists and 24 shots on goal while tying the program record with 37 shot attempts. The nine goals are tied for the third most scored in team history and the most in a match since netting 11 goals against Grambling on Sept. 25, 2011.
Both
Helen Alormenu and
Katrin Agustsdottir finished with two goals and one assist. Both
Chloe Jones and
Kaylie Smith registered two assists on the night. They are the third set of teammates with multiple assists in a match since 2015 and first since
Haley Shaw and
Kamaria Williams also had two assists each Sept. 12, 2021 against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
Recording their first collegiate goals were
Sadie Guzman and
Alexis Montgomery while
Constance Agyemang netted her first in a Bobcat uniform. Also finding the back of the net was
Kennley Bradley and
Halle Garcia.
Finishing with an assist apiece were
Sydney Bassa,
Jade Bowe,
Lilah Dupree,
Victoria Meza and Guzman.
Alormenu got the scoring started early in the fourth minute with a left-footed shooting just inside the right post. The sophomore doubled the lead at the end of the 20th minute with an Olympico from the left corner stick.
Guzman knocked in a left-footed shot just under the crossbar late in the 24th minute. Her tally would be the first of four goals over the next four and a half minutes. Recording tallies in that span were Agustsdottir, Agyemang and Montgomery.
Capping off the seven-goal first half was a Garcia off a cross from Dupree with 51 seconds left on the clock.
The second half saw Agustsdottir complete her brace after a Saints' turnover just under three minutes into the period.
OLLU got on the scoreboard in the 84th minute. Grace Reed took a penalty kick that was saved by
Maude Rouanet but she knocked in the rebound.
Just 19 seconds later, the Saints were called for a handball in their defensive 18-yard box to give Texas State a penalty kick. Bradley took the spot kick and knocked it past the goalkeeper for the final tally of the contest.
Next up for the Bobcats is a trip to the Alamo City to take on Incarnate Word on Sunday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. from Benson Stadium.
