Men’s Golf Welcomes Transfer Jose Berenguel

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State men's golf head coach Shane Howell has announced the addition of Arkansas - Pine Bluff transfer Jose Berenguel ahead of the 2025-26 season.

As a freshman, Berenguel won the 2024 SWAC Individual Championship by four strokes, one of three individual titles he won, and helped the team to an automatic bid to the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional with its conference victory. He finished the season with a 74.40 scoring average across 30 rounds and a 350-184-19 record against the competition. As part of the UAPB lineup, Berenguel contributed to a pair of team championships and a pair of runner-up finishes.

Berenguel made the lineup in each of the Golden Lions' tournaments during his sophomore campaign, earning six top 10 finishes, four in the top three and a win at the PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship. He was also third at the SWAC Championship and helped UAPB to wins at the PGA WORKS event as well as the TSU Big Blue Intercollegiate, while adding runner-up finishes at the SWAC Championship and two additional events.

An accomplished golfer from Almeria, Spain, Berenguel competed as an amateur at the 2024 Alps de Roquetas de Mar on the Alps Tour, won the Campeonato Internacional Absoluto de Andalucia and picked up runner-up finishes at the 2025 Copa Andalucía Masculina and 2024 WAGR Golf Almerimar, among other notable finishes.

The 2024-25 season saw the Bobcats qualify for postseason action at the National Golf Invitational and individual Sakke Siltala make TXST history, becoming the first golfer to qualify for the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship.
