SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State had timely two-out hitting and got solid pitching to win Saturday's series finale 4-1 over Georgia Southern from J.I. Clements Stadium.

With the win, the Bobcats improved to 25-26 on the season while the Eagles fell to 27-25 overall. Both teams are now 13-14 in the Sun Belt Conference.

Austin Eaton (4-2) struck out four in 5.1 innings and allowed just one run on four hits to pick up the win. Carson Laws earned his eighth save after striking out three in two scoreless innings. Taking the loss was Carter DeGondea (4-1) as he allowed two runs on three hits in 5.2 innings.

Throwing 1.2 scoreless innings of relief was Bryson Dudley, who struck out two and walked three.

Both Ryne Farber and Austin Munguia had two hits and scored a run. Chase Mora drove in two runs with his lone base knock being a double. Also finishing with an RBI apiece were Dawson Park and Farber.

With two outs in the third, Farber laid down a bunt that stayed fair down the third base line for a single. The next pitch saw Mora smack the pitch to left field and off the wall for an RBI double.

In the sixth, Munguia laced a single through the left side of the infield with two outs. Rashawn Galloway drew a walk and then Park sent the first pitch he saw back up the middle for an RBI single to double the lead.

Georgia Southern got a run back in the bottom of the frame on a two-out RBI single from Jonathan Jaime.

Samson Pugh led off the ninth with a single to left field for the Bobcats' first hit of the game not coming with two outs. After Travis Bragg was walked, Alan Shibley laid down a sacrifice bunt to move both runners into scoring position.

Farber hit a high chopper that saw the second baseman make a diving stop to keep the ball in the infield. The sophomore shortstop beat the throw for an infield single and drive in a run. Mora would then hit a sacrifice fly to left to add a second insurance run.

Laws walked the first batter in the bottom of the ninth but would retire the next three to seal the victory.

Next up for TXST is the final road game of the season with a trip to UTRGV on Tuesday for a 6:30 p.m. contest.
