TROY, Ala. – Sunday saw Texas State score 11 runs in the fifth inning on the way to taking the series finale 14-3 in seven innings over 20-ranked Troy at Riddle-Pace Field. It was the first time that the Bobcats have scored double-digit runs in an inning since plating 10 against Prairie View A&M on Feb. 27, 2024.
Â
With the result, TXST improved to 21-23 overall and 9-12 in the Sun Belt Conference while the Trojans are now 31-13 on the season and 14-7 in league play.
Â
Bryson Dudley (4-1) tossed four scoreless innings out of the bullpen with four strikeouts to pick up the win. Adam Falinski (0-5) surrendered two runs and walked two while not recording an out to take the loss.
Â
Starting on the rubber was Shane Connell, who struck out three in two innings but gave up three runs on four hits and two walks. Austin Eaton finished the game with a scoreless seventh that saw him record all three outs via a punch out.
Â
At the plate, Ryne Farber went 3-for-5 with four RBI, two runs and hit a home run. Chase Mora scored twice and his lone hit of the afternoon was a grand slam. Also leaving the yard was Coy DeFury and Alan Shibley.
Â
Both Zachary Gingrich and Alan Shibley scored three times each. Gingrich did so without recording an at-bat as he was walked twice and hit by a pitch. Shibley drove in three runs, DeFury plated two and Ian Collier had one RBI and hit a double.
Â
Troy struck first with three runs in the second. The hosts nearly had more on Jimmy Janicki's bases loaded double, but a relay throw from Shibley to Dawson Park to Collier ended with a tag out at the plate to wrap up the frame.
Â
With one gone in the third, Gingrich was walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch. A 3-2 offering to Alan Shibley was smacked 382 feet over the towering right field wall to put the Bobcats on the scoreboard.
Â
A frame later, Collier doubled to left field that plated Austin Munguia to tie the game at 3-3.
Â
The fifth saw Texas State be patient at the plate and the Trojans use five different pitchers. Of the four hits, three of them left the yard. The first was a three-run long ball by Farber. After Mora walked, DeFury unloaded on a 0-1 pitch that traveled 406 feet to right field to increase the lead to five runs.
Â
With two gone in the inning, Collier and Samson Pugh were walked and Gingrich was plunked to load the bases. Shibley would then be plunked to bring in the sixth run of the frame. Farber drove in his fourth run of the inning with an infield single to the first baseman.
Â
After a pitching change, Mora sent a 3-1 offering 410 feet to right center for a grand slam and the final runs of the game. It was his team leading seventh homer of the season and 30th of his career. The Tomball, Texas native is the fifth Bobcat ever to reach 30 career long balls.
Â
Next up for Texas State is a midweek game on Tuesday against I-35 rival UTSA at Bobcat Ballpark. The contest is scheduled for a 6 p.m. first pitch.
