Bobcats Fall in Extra Innings to Louisiana

SAN MARCOS, Texas– Despite battling through seven innings, Texas State dropped its Friday night game with the Ragin' Cajuns in extra innings to open its final series at home this season.

How it Happened:
The Ragin' Cajuns scored first in this one after stringing together four hits and a walk in the first inning. That'd allow them to score two runs off Maddy Azua who started in the circle for the Bobcats. She'd toss 5.0 innings on the night allowing four runs off eight hits, one walk and striking out two batters.

Texas State answered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning, though, to take the lead. After Sydney Harvey singled up the middle and Aiyana Coleman was intentionally walked, Karmyn Bass would also be walked to load the bases. An RBI single from Ciara Trahan scored the first run.

Megan Kelnar would bat in two more runs on a single of her own to score the final runs of the inning.

From there, the Bobcats added their fourth and final run of the game in the bottom of the third. Bass had a triple to left field to get on base, she'd go on to score on a sac-fly from Kelnar. Kelnar had three of the team's four RBI tonight.

After that, though, the Bobcats left runners on base the rest of the night. With no shortage of runners, Texas State stranded eight runners in five innings to close out the game.

Louisiana had tied the game up in the 5th off an error by Sydney Harvey. After that error, a sound defensive game from the Bobcats was overshadowed by runners being stranded that would ultimately cost them the game.

Emma Strood came in in the top of the 6th and tossed the final three innings of the game, allowing six hits and one run that would ultimately decide the game.

That final run came in the top of the 8th off an RBI single turned out at second on the runner attempting to advance that would end the inning. Despite the out, the run scored and was the final run of the night to push the Ragin' Cajuns to the 5-4 win.

Texas State is now 30-17 on the season, and 12-7 in Sun Belt play.
