Kelnar’s Two Run Homer Seals 3-2 Win for Bobcats

SAN MARCOS, Texas– Texas State softball evened the series with Louisiana on Saturday afternoon after a two-run shot by Megan Kelnar helped the Bobcats take the lead in the fourth inning. That, paired with a three-hit and five strikeout outing from Emma Strood helped the Bobcats to the 3-2 win.

How it Happened:
Emma Strood started and tossed the complete game in the circle, getting her first strikeout of the night on the second batter. She'd go on to toss a three-hit game while striking out five batters.

The Bobcats were able to get base runners on in the first three innings. The first of the night was a triple from Keely Williams in the first. They'd load the bases on back-to-back walks after that, but a Ciara Trahan fly out would end the inning.

Both sides were retired in order in the second and third, though.

The bats came alive in the fourth and Louisiana scored the first run of the game off an error by Sydney Harvey. The Bobcats would get the final two outs of the inning to keep the Ragin' Cajuns from extending their lead.

It was the bottom half of the fourth that helped put the Bobcats ahead. The inning started off with Aiyana Coleman being intentionally walked. Emilee Baker pinchran for her, and she'd score on Kelnar's home run. It was her first home run of the season.

The Bobcats added another run in the 5th off an RBI double for Erin Peterson. That would be the final run of the game for the Bobcats.

Strood surrendered a solo home run in the top of the 6th to make it a one run game, but the Bobcat defense showed out to keep the Ragin' Cajuns from scoring any more runs.

Strood retired two batters in the top of the 7th to end the game.

Texas State is now 31-17 on the season, and 13-7 in Sun Belt play.
