Softball Home for Final Series this Weekend

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State softball will return home for an action-packed weekend inside Bobcat Softball Stadium. 
The final series of the regular season will start April 25th at 6 pm vs the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns as part of the Bobcats 'Pitch for a Cure' night which will bring awareness to breast cancer. 

On Sunday, the Bobcats will honor graduating seniors Bailee Welsh, Presley Glende and Ciara Trahan. All three games will be streamed on ESPN+ and fans can purchase tickets at txst.com/tickets.

The Bobcats come into the week with a 30-16 record, having an 12-6 record in Sun Belt action after dropping a series to the Troy Trojans last week. 

Coming into the weekend, Bobcat first basement Aiyana Coleman is tied for 1st in the Bobcats all-time single season record for home runs. Coleman hit her 15th home run of the season during the Bobcats series with Troy to tie the record.
 
GAME NOTES
ABOUT THE BOBCATS:
Texas State is coming off a 47-win campaign and an appearance in the NCAA College Station Regional after winning the Sun Belt Conference Tournament in 2024. The Bobcats were selected to finish 1st in the Sun Belt Conference Preseason poll. The team currently sits in 2nd place in the Sun Belt.

The Bobcats have a new look to them this year, but return key position players like outfielders Ciara TrahanEmilee Baker, and Sydney Harvey, pitchers Maddy Azua, Presley GlendeAnalisa Soliz and Abigail Jennings, catchers Karmyn BassMakayla Hall, and Megan Kelnar.

The Bobcats also brought in four transfers, all from Power 4 schools, Aiyana Coleman (Texas A&M), Keely Williams (Texas A&M), Kate Bubela (UNC), Emma Strood (LSU) to round out the team.

Also joining the team was seven freshmen. Through 46 games so far, 25% of Texas State's starters have been freshmen. Erin Peterson leads the freshmen with 46 consecutive starts at shortstop, one of just seven known freshmen in the nation to have started every game of the season.

The Bobcats currently have six players batting above .300, led by Coleman at .423. Coleman leads the team in hits (47) home runs (15) and RBI (48) Rounding out the top of the order is Ciara Trahan (.325), Bailee Slack (.320), Sydney Harvey (.311), Keely Williams (.308) and Megan Kelnar (.303).
The Bobcat pitching staff also continues to impress with a team ERA of 2.84 while being one of the best teams in the nation for strikeouts per seven innings, WHIP, and earned run average.
 
ABOUT THE RAGIN' CAJUNS:
Louisiana comes into the week with a 23-23 record on the season, and they are 9-9 so far in Sun Belt play. The Ragin' Cajuns are coming off an 11-2 loss to #1 Texas A&M in the midweek after sweeping its series with South Alabama last weekend.

Louisiana's batting is led by Kayla Falterman who is batting .426 this season. Leading the team in hits is Maddie Hayden with 55, she also has 18 RBI. Emily Smith leads the team in RBI with 34. Smith, Hayden and Falterman are three of the four Ragin' Cajuns batting above .300. Rounding out the top of the batting order is Mia Liscano who's batting .310.
 
The Ragin' Cajuns most effective pitchers are Sam Ryan and Mallory Wheeler. Wheeler sees the most innings for Louisiana with 100.1 innings so far this year, she has a 4.84 ERA while allowing 54 earned runs on 106 hits. Ryan has gone 63.0 innings while allowing just 30 earned runs.
 
UP NEXT:
The Bobcats will close the regular season next week at ULM. That three-game series will be May 1-3 with all three games streaming on ESPN+. The Bobcats will then head to the Sun Belt Conference Tournament in Troy, Alabama that starts on May 7.
