Bobcats Drop Series to Troy

SAN MARCOS, Texas– Texas State softball dropped its series with the Troy Trojans on Saturday afternoon after a 3-2 loss.

What Head Coach Ricci Woodard said: "Again, just continue to figure out how to grow up, to play one pitch at a time. I couldn't tell if the pressure got to us, or if it being the third game of the series got to us, but we just didn't perform the way I thought we could."

How it Happened:
Emma Strood started in the circle for the Bobcats, allowing two hits but no runs in the first and another single and walk in the second before Woodard opted to bring in Maddy Azua. From there, the Trojans scored two funs in the 2nd inning before a double play by Megan Kelnar and Kate Bubela ended the second inning.

Kelnar also had an RBI single in the bottom half of the 2nd for one of the Bobcats runs in the game. She scored Bass, who had reached base on a walk.

Both sides were retired in order in the third, and the Trojans in the top of the 4th. Karmyn Bass singled in the bottom half of the 4th, but was left stranded. The same thing happened to Kelnar with a single in the 5th.

The Bobcats tied the game in the 6th on an RBI single from Ciara Trahan, but Bass getting thrown out at third would end the inning before the Bobcats could take the lead.

The Trojans scored the game winning run on a double to right center in the top of the 7th. Texas State was able to get a runner on in the bottom half of the inning, but couldn't score the run. Texas State lost 3-2 and the series to the Trojans.

Texas State is now 30-15 on the season, and 12-6 in Sun Belt play.

Up next:
The Bobcats will head back out on the road for a game at Baylor on Tuesday, April 22. That game will start at 6:30 pm and be streamed on ESPN+. The team will then return home for the final conference series of the year against the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns from April 25-28.
