Baseball Drops Series Finale at South Alabama

MOBILE, Ala. – Texas State jumped out to an early lead on Saturday afternoon but it would be South Alabama claiming the series finale 10-2 from Stanky Field.

With the result, the Bobcats are now 19-20 overall and 8-10 in the Sun Belt Conference while the Jaguars improved to 17-21 on the season and 7-11 in league play.

Picking up the win on the mound was Zach Willingham (3-4) after striking out six in seven innings and giving up just two runs on five hits. Shane Connell (0-1) tossed 3.2 innings in his fourth start of the season with three strikeouts but allowed four runs on four hits to take the loss.

Bryson Dudley struck out two in 2.1 innings out of the bullpen and Braylen Timmins tossed a scoreless frame with one punch out.

The only TXST batter with multiple hits on the day was Chase Mora, who finished 2-for-2 with two walks and scored once. Ryne Farber hit his second home run of the season and Ausitn Munguia was 1-for-3 with an RBI and one walk. Also finishing with a base knock apiece were Dawson Park and Samson Pugh.

Mora drew his first walk of the game in the first. After he stole second, Munguia hit a single through the left side to bring home the junior third baseman.

The Jaguars would tie the game in the second on a Josh Stevenson solo home run to right field.

With one gone in the top of the third, Farber sent the first pitch he saw over the left field wall for a solo homer and put Texas State back in front. The round tripper was the fourth in the sophomore's career and first that he has hit from the right side of the plate.

South Alabama tied the game again in the bottom of the frame with another solo home run. This time off the bat of Rett Johnson.

The hosts would go on to score eight unanswered runs over the next four innings.

Next up for the Bobcats are two midweek games at home. First up is No. 1 Texas on Tuesday and then Tarleton State on Wednesday with both games starting at 6 p.m.
